With each city I visit there is always that craving for the familiar. Usually, that familiar thing is ramen. Shortly after settling into my new home in Los Angeles I decided to google “the best ramen in LA” and quickly stumbled upon Silverlake Ramen. Lucky for me it was a short walk down Sunset Boulevard and one that I’ll never regret.
Spoiler alert: Silverlake Ramen ended up being some of the best ramen I’ve ever had, and not just in LA. While the line is sometimes out of the door (when dine in eating is available), on this particular day it paid to be solo. I sat down at the “bar” and quickly glanced at the menu. Opting for the lunch special that ran until 4pm meant I could get a salad, appetizer, and ramen all for under $15.
What I Ordered
I decided to go with a green salad, the chicken rice bowl, and my favorite ramen, tonkotsu. This particular ramen was labeled The Blaze – Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen complete with spicy creamy pork broth, bean sprouts, spinach, green onion, seaweed, and egg. Although mine happened to be missing the egg it was fine as I dislike soft boiled eggs anyway.
My only complaint at the time was that all three of my dishes came out at the same time. This didn’t give me a chance to enjoy each item and look forward to the next as I essentially was eating everything at once. However, I definitely left with a full stomach and no regrets.
Silverlake Ramen has several locations including a “to go” location also on Sunset Boulevard. I’ve also ordered from the downtown location and prefer the eat in Sunset location, although the difference in taste could be due to how ramen has to be delivered. Either way, if you’re craving ramen and are having a tough time choosing, I highly recommend going with Silverlake Ramen. It won’t disappoint.
